Gemini meteor shower in Oman; up to 120 meteors visible per hour

Muscat: The annual Gemini meteor shower, considered one of the most spectacular events of the year, can be observed in Oman. The meteor shower, which begins on Saturday night, is expected to be most visible and beautiful before dawn, according to Qasim Hamad Al Busaidy, Chairman of the Astronomy and Astrophotography Committee of the Oman Astronomy Society.

The moonrise is at 12:50 AM, making the hours before it the most suitable for observation. Al Busaidy explained that as the moonlight increases, the visibility of the meteors decreases. Thus, it is recommended to look towards the eastern sky from areas with low light pollution. It is possible to see up to 120 meteors per hour. The Gemini meteor shower is caused by debris released from the asteroid 3200 Phaethon.
